Why cant I download anything on google chrome?

Everytime I try to download something on google chrome, the download freezes and the time keeps going up. For example, if it says 1 min left, it goes up to 2 then 3, 4 , 10 etc

or you can just wait it out

because what you want to download will finish eventually
